The Palms Elderly Care Facility has been in existence since 1878. It is Guyana’s oldest elderly residential facility located on Brickdam. This Institution is governed by the Poor Relief Act Chapter 36:02, which was enacted to “make provision for the relief of the poor”. The Palms is managed by an Administrator who oversees its daily operations, a Matron who is responsible for patient care and a Social Worker who provides psycho-social counselling. The Palms Elderly Care Facility works within clearly set boundaries and standards which requires that a person may be admitted only on the recommendations of the Social Worker and in-house Gerontologist. Persons will not be refused based on their race, religion, sexual orientation or disability.
