CPA has the general responsibility of ensuring the safety and protection of children in Guyana, and promotes the rights of the child.
Key Functions
- Provides psychosocial support and other assistance to vulnerable families
- Responds to child abuse reports and provides safe accommodation and recovery for victims
- Manages operations of the State Care Centres for vulnerable children
- Facilitates the placement of children in foster homes
- Enables the reunification of children by providing psychosocial assistance and more to ensure the childrenâs continuous well-being
- Ensures the provision of Adoption Services and the maintenance of the Adoption Board
- Oversees the implementation of Operational Standards in Childrenâs Homes and Orphanages
- Conducts public awareness programmes on issues affecting the well-being of children
- Registers and licenses Children Day Care facilities
- Facilitates the provision of Family Court Services in keeping with the Custody, Contact, Guardianship and Maintenance Act 2011.
