How do I qualify for Public Assistance?

To determine your eligibility, personnel from the Ministry’s Probation and Social Services Department will have to evaluate you and your family’s size, income and assets.

At what age am I eligible for Public Assistance?

You can apply for Public assistance if you are the ages between the ages of 16 and 64 and live in Guyana.

Where do I go to apply for Public Assistance?

You can contact the Probation and Social Services Department in your Region to request a meeting. If you are unable to visit the office, an officer will meet you at another location.

What documents do I need to have?

You will need to following documents if you qualify: Birth Certificate; Passport or Citizenship Paper; NIS Number; documents stating you expenses (rent receipts, mortgage statements and utility bills); documents stating income and information about your job or training programme.

Who is eligible for Old Age Pension?

Any Guyanese over the age of 65.

What is Trafficking in Person (TIP)?

The definition of trafficking consists of three core elements:
The action of trafficking which means the recruitment, transportation, transfer, harboring or receipt of persons;
The means of trafficking which includes threat of or use of force, deception, coercion, abuse of power or position of vulnerability; and
The purpose of trafficking which is always exploitation.

What are the ways a person could be trafficked?

Domestic Servitude; Servile Marriage; Child Marriage; Forced Labour; Forced Begging; Child Soldiers; Prostitution Of Another/Commercial Sexual Exploitation; Sexual Slavery And Illicit Removal Of Organs/Organ Removal/Harvesting.
