MHSSS developed the “womb to tomb” model for Guyana through it human, financial, and technical resources and community programmes and services. Our mission is to nurture a resilient and caring society that can overcome challenges together. Previously known as the Ministry of Labour, Human Resources and Social Security, the Ministry was officially renamed and restructured in 2015.
Our Ministry
The Ministry of Human Services and Social Security is committed to the sustainable development and rehabilitation of children, women, families, the elderly and providing training and social and welfare services/programmes to persons in difficult circumstances and disadvantaged persons. Additionally, the Ministry maintains a stable industrial relations climate.
The Elderly
Our Ministry is dedicated to supporting the elderly through various programs, including pension services, healthcare assistance, and social welfare initiatives, ensuring their well-being and dignity in their later years.
Survivors of domestic and sexual abuse
Our Ministry offers vital support to survivors of domestic and sexual abuse through counseling, legal assistance, safe housing, and empowerment programs.
Persons with disabilities
We provide access to specialized services, financial support, vocational training, and inclusive programs that promote independence and equal opportunities.
Neglected and abused children
Our Ministry is dedicated to protecting neglected and abused children through intervention services, safe shelters, counseling, and rehabilitation programs, ensuring they receive the care and support needed to thrive.
Teenage mothers and Single parents
Our Ministry supports teenage mothers and single parents through counseling, financial assistance, parenting programs, and access to education and job training, empowering them to build stable and fulfilling lives for themselves and their children.
Trafficking in Persons
Our Ministry provides critical support to victims of human trafficking, including rescue, rehabilitation, legal aid, counseling, and reintegration programs, helping them rebuild their lives with dignity and security.
